What exactly is kinderopvangtoeslag?
If your child is still too young for school, they can enter child care. Has your child care centre received a permit from the Flemish Community? And do you pay a fee determined by the child care centre, i.e. not in accordance with Kind & Gezin? If so, you will receive child care allowance on top of your Groeipakket. Any child cared for in Flanders or Brussels is eligible to receive this.
The supplement is only for children who are not yet in school. In other words, after-school clubs are not eligible.
Do you live in Brussels, Wallonia or a country bordering Belgium, and does your child go to a child care centre recognised by the Flemish Community without a Kind & Gezin subsidy for the income fee? If so, you can apply for a child care allowance by clicking on the button below.
When are you entitled to receive a kinderopvangtoeslag?
Is your child younger than two-and-a-half years of age? Then you are always entitled to a kinderopvangtoeslag.
If your child is over two-and-a-half years of age? Then you are still eligible for the allowance if your child is not in preschool.
In other words, if your child turns two-and-a-half years old in May and will attend a child care centre up to the end of August, you will continue to receive the allowance up to the end of August.
To receive the allowance, you need to be able to meet the following three criteria:
- Your child is not yet in preschool;
- You opt for a child care centre that has a permit from the Flemish government;
- The centre’s fee is not determined according to the Kind & Gezin subsidy scheme.
It is therefore quite possible for your child to not be entitled to a Groeipakket, but to be eligible for a child care allowance. Would you like to find out more? Then our Groeipakket coaches will be pleased to provide you with further information.
How is your kinderopvangtoeslag calculated?
The number of days that your child is at the child care centre is important.
- 1/2 day of care = your child is at the centre for at least 3 hours.
- 1 full day of care = your child is at the centre for at least 5 hours.
- 2 half days of care = 1 full day of care.
You will receive € 3,29 per full day of care.
An example calculation:
Marius is at a child care centre for 10 full days and 7 half days.
These 7 half days make up 3,5 full days in total. Marius is therefore at a child care centre for 10 + 3,5 = 13,5 full days.
His parents therefore receive 13,5 days x €3,29 = €44,415 in child care allowance. This amount is rounded up, i.e. € 44,42.
When do you receive the kinderopvangtoeslag?
The kinderopvangtoeslag is not paid out together with the Groeipakket. In other words, the money will be paid into your account separately.
Each month, your child care centre will inform MyFamily of how many days of care your child has received.
|Once MyFamily receives this information…||… We will pay your child care allowance…|
|… before the 15th of the month||… on the 20th of this month |
(or on the next working day if the 20th is not a working day)
|… after the 15th of the month||… on the earliest possible payment date after we have received the information on how many days of care were provided|
What is the extra allowance for children aged 3 and 4 (kleutertoeslag)?
Is your child at preschool age? If so, you will receive extra allowance for children aged 3 and 4 instead of kinderopvangtoeslag.
